St. Mary's Church

Choral & Organ Scholarships

St. Mary's is keen to appoint two choral scholars and one organ scholar to start after Easter 2022.

Minimum age 11, open to those of all faiths and none. Successful applicants will be asked to offer approximately 66% attendance across the year, singing in our choir on Sundays, with the organ scholar gradually taking on some playing as and when they are able (free access available for organ practice).

In return we will pay for regular lessons with a specialist teacher (DBS checked). No previous experience is required - although piano skills up to grade 5 are an advantage for the organ scholarship - but enthusiasm is by far the most important attribute. We particularly want to encourage those who may not otherwise have the chance to receive individual lessons. Opportunities to give concerts and take exams in addition to regular contribution to worship. Fees paid for singing at weddings. The scholarships will be renewed termly subject to mutual agreement.

Audition will be by informal interview, during which you will be asked to sing or play a simple song/piece that you enjoy. Further information available from:-

Matthew Cooke, Director of Music: 07776 075275 E: to whom applications should be sent by Monday 14th March 2022.
