St. Mary's Church

The Building

The church is mentioned in the Domesday Book but most of the building dates from the C13th and C14th. Restorations in 1827 and 1903 have hidden much of the old structure.

The steeple had an unfortunate history and was finally removed in 1947 and the rendering removed from the tower.

For more about the building's modernisation see Vic Constable's article in the November 2015 Parish Magazine (from page 10 onwards).

Hiring the Church

St. Mary’s Church is available for hire, for concerts, lectures, meetings etc. The acoustics are exceptionally good for musical performance. There is a small kitchen suitable for the provision of light refreshments, and toilets, including facilities for the disabled. There is also a meeting room for hire. The church has modern sound and lighting systems. Hire charges are very reasonable. See the links on this page for more detailed information, charges, application forms, and contact details.
